Hi there—I'm Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Germany wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many international assignments, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were intense — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily chores seemed more complicated than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning on the fly. Yet over time, routines took shape. We found spots that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built SilentPinePaper
Most information online fell into corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real-life experiences in Germany.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A tourism board resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Germany goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I'll continue recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere within Germany, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers,
Sophie
